About O Pescador

If you’re exploring the Algarve and want to get a feel for local food culture, let me introduce you to O Pescador, a relaxed restaurant that feels rooted in its surroundings and easy to enjoy from the first moment. Sitting along Av. da República 48 in Vila Real de Santo António, O Pescador is the kind of place you notice while strolling the area, and once inside, it quickly makes sense why locals and visitors keep it on their radar. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, which makes it a comfortable choice whether you’re dropping in for a laid-back meal or settling in for something a little longer with friends. One thing I appreciate about O Pescador is its flexibility; you can choose to dine in and enjoy the full restaurant experience, grab takeaway if you’re short on time, or even take advantage of delivery when you want good food without leaving your spot. Outdoor seating is also available, which is a big plus when the weather is right and you want to soak up the street vibe while eating. The offerings lean into what people expect from a solid Portuguese restaurant, with alcohol options that include beer, wine, and spirits, making it easy to pair your meal with something you actually enjoy. Coffee is available too, which works perfectly if you’re stopping by during the day or easing into a longer lunch. Small plates add a social element to the table, encouraging sharing and conversation, and they fit naturally with the relaxed rhythm of the place. O Pescador doesn’t try to be flashy or overcomplicated; instead, it focuses on being approachable, consistent, and enjoyable, which makes it easy to recommend when someone asks where to eat in Vila Real de Santo António.

This is a very competent local restaurant offering local dishes. Don't be put off by the multi language menu. Order from their specials which is on their front page of the menu. Their fresh fish (displayed in the front counter) was very good as well. Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.

The restaurant is very popular, highly recommend you to book or else you might not be able to get a table at the spot. I saw mixed reviews in the latest reviews. My personal experience was excellent, great food at reasonable price. The potion of seafood rice for two person is very generous. We eat until almost puke but still cannot finish it. The starter we ordered is shrimps, tastes fresh and sweet. The staff are very busy running around to serve customers, but still have smiles on their faces will come with more people next time or else will order something else

Traditional food at its finest. Not refined but you’re sure to get a good meal out of it. Try the takeaway daily options, it’s 7€, enough for 1 or even 2 depending on how much you eat and they change it “Prato do dia” daily. To me their special dish is “arroz de lingueirao” but you have many traditional dishes to choose from (specially tuna)

Delicious choco frite (fried cuttlefish), grilled lulas (squid) and dourado (sea bass). Very nice house white wine and good octopus rice. Better service than at some of the other popular restaurants in town. Great location for views of the river and people watching!

Very nice local authentic fish restaurant. They have got a display of fresh fishes, which the waitress kindly introduced us and gave her suggestions. Fish was very well done.
